OPAL — NJ Stormwater Interactive Training Guide¶
Welcome to OPAL, an interactive knowledge system for stormwater engineering in New Jersey.
This site provides engineering guidance, regulatory interpretation, and BMP design support anchored to the New Jersey Stormwater Management Rules (N.J.A.C. 7:8) and the NJ Stormwater BMP Manual.
How to Use OPAL¶
Use the navigation tabs at the top to move between modules:
| Module | What You'll Find |
|---|---|
| BMP Library | Design criteria, siting, maintenance, and failure points for all 25 BMPs |
| Regulatory Explorer | N.J.A.C. 7:8 rules mapped to engineering requirements |
| Engineering Constraints | Site feasibility factors and design limits |
| Design Workflow | Staged engineering process from regulation to implementation |
| Glossary | Shared terminology for consistent understanding |
| Outputs | Auditable raw phase artifacts injected from Outs/ |
| Tools | Interactive engineering tools with module cross-links |
| Downloads | Curated source corpus grouped by category |
Engineering Reasoning Chain¶
Regulation --> BMP Strategy --> Site Constraints --> Design Workflow
Start with what the rule requires. Identify candidate BMPs. Filter by site feasibility. Advance through the design workflow.
Prototype¶
An interactive Google Opal prototype is available for demos and drafting: Open Prototype
The GitHub repository is the source of truth. See the Opal-to-repo mapping for how the prototype maps to this site.
